Things I aim to live by at 27.
Constantly articulate and remind yourself of your deep convictions and beliefs. Lean on them during times of uncertainty.
Embrace imperfection. Focus on taking many steps forward as opposed to making sure each step is optimal. Move quickly past and don’t think more than needed about the steps you’ve already taken.
If wrong, figure it out as quickly as you can. Get fast feedback, and admit to the mistake. But always continue to try something. The quicker this is done, the faster you will find what you need.
Use your surplus. There is usually something useful you can spend your time on.
Between being polite and direct, it is better to be direct. It will save a lot of time and mental real estate. Still, always give people the dignity they deserve.
Between saving time or mental overhead and saving money, within reason, it is better to have more time and mental capacity. Nothing is more important than your focus.
One day you’ll be too old to do anything you haven’t done yet. None of the concerns or feelings you or others have now will matter then. Do what you need to do now.
Constantly strive to convert indefinite optimism into concrete things, however small or simple those things are. Do those small extremely well, and let the simple yet important things stand out.
Make your environment productive and stimulating. Surround yourself with and lean on people you respect and trust. Be someone worthy of being in their company.
Appreciate the funny moments and have perspective. Take yourself seriously, but only as much as you should.
